A solar water heating system is a water heating system in which the used energy is solar energy. Solar energy is available freely in the nature and is thus one of the best energy sources of energy to be consumed.
Types of solar water heating system
Solar water heating system can be of two basic types depending on their systems. They are:
- Active solar water heating system: This system includes incorporation as well as usage of devices like pumps etc, in order to either store or carry the water to the storage or heating area.
- Passive solar water heating system: This system does not incorporate any such devices. It does not rely on any mechanical or electrical equipment to carry, store, and distribute the water.

If you glance at the history of solar water heating systems, you would find that the first solar heating system was incorporated by a Jew man from South Africa in Israel. This was done in the year 1952. Then in 1980 a law was passed in Israel making solar heating compulsory for everyone.
Working of solar water heating system
A typical solar water heating system has a solar panel. This solar panel is also known as solar collector. Along with this solar panel, it has a fluid to transfer the heat energy. This fluid is called heat transfer fluid. This heat energy is basically supplied to radiators or hot water tanks. The solar panel is located somewhere where sunlight is the maximum.
The heat energy is gained from the solar energy; hence sunlight is very much required. It should also be kept in mind that the sunlight should be received by the solar panel or collector throughout the day. Few of the prescribed places are roof tops or backyard etc. the heat from these solar panels are used to supply to the water and thus the water gets heated up. The water receives the heat from the panel and is then moved to the storage tanks.
Uses
The solar water heating system is widely used throughout the globe. The main reason is because it is eco friendly and does not hamper the environment in any possible way.
